AKHANDA - SHIKAR (MASS-HUNTING)
image

The cases of poaching of elephants, Sambar, Wild boar, Deers, Muntjac, Mouse Deer etc. are reported. Though the poaching of tigers are not reported officially by unknown reason, it is obvious that steady decline of tiger population from 101 to 25 only indicates regular poaching of tiger.

The extremists are using the forest since last few years as safe corridor due to wide spread dense cover of forest.

Tribal people in & around Similipal perform 'AKHAND - SHIKAR' (Mass hunting ) as a ritual during Mid April.

The forest Management has undertaken strong anti-hunting measures to curb down the hunting of wild animals.

The pressure for fire wood, small timber exists alongwith timber mafias operate in same areas.
